Taut 1

Page history last edited by Adam 14 years, 5 months ago

A few years ago my family and I  went to Lake George, NY, as we always annually do. The car ride to Lake George was a few hours long, and I was crammed in the backseat with lots of camping equipment. My cousin was squished right next to me, and we were constantly bickering. Our nerves were very taut, and we were both on edge. However, once we got out of the car and saw how beautiful the area was, we stopped fighting.

Car reviews show that the Subara Impreza WRX's handling is taut yet controlled. This means that the car hugs the road and has a tight or taut wheel base, giving the car taut handling. This is so because taut means tight.

I chose this picture because it perfectly represents taught. Guitar strings are very taught and are stretched extremely tight. The player can either tighten or loosen the strings to make them more or less taught. More often than not, strings on a guitar are very tight to make the pitch of each strum to sound better and clearer.

This video describes the word taut vey well.  The two trucks are pulling with great force in opposite directions.  Since the trucks are so heavy, their immense forces make the rope tied between them extremely tight and strained.  The trucks stay still for a little while because they are pulling with the same force, but soon one of the vehicles pulls the other, and they go back and forth pulling each other; the rope staying taut the whole time.

Taut

The relationships in the middle east involving America have become taut. There has been a lot of tension involving America and the middle eastern states and there relationships have been streached and are tight. http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/meast/10/21/us.israel.drill/index.html

I chose this video because it shows a toy that is very taut. This is a toy stretched out far from left to right, up to down and all directions. This seems like such a taut object that it would take a lot to strain to so bad that it would come apart from too much pull.

This seemed to me like a good example to show the definition of taut.
